Editor,

Allow me to thank Cabinet for endorsing the recent proposal by the Natuional University of Rwanda to relocate the school of journalism from Butare to Kigali. This is a productive development.  Many practicing journalists based in Kigali will now have the opportunity to study and get more skills.

To ensure that journalists are able to provide information, training is very important. To keep citizens informed, journalists have to be trained so that they know how to provide information that is accurate and report fairly.

Without training, journalists are at great risk of misleading the public. Journalists are the watchdog of society and there is no way they can or educate the public when they are not trained.

We have many practicing journalists who are not trained and it has led to poor reporting. It is up to journalists to grab this opportunity because education is the best investment in life.
