RWANDA Revenue Authority (RRA) are through to the quarter-finals of the 24th Africa Women Volleyball Club Championship after edging past St. Denis Olympique in yesterday’s hotly contested Group D match at Brookhouse gymnasium in Nairobi.
RRA started strongly winning the first two sets 25-22 and 25-19 but the Reunion Islands’ forced the tie to go into a fifth set decider after claiming the third and fourth sets (25-19 and 25-23).
With everything to play for, RRA made no mistake as they cruised to a 15-4 win to set up a quarter-final clash with one of the tournament favourites Kenya Pipelines.
"The players held their nerves when it mattered most. They showed great maturity and composure and I’m happy for them,” said an excited and happy Jean Luc Ndayikengurukiye.
With two wins out of three at the group stage, the tax collectors have good confidence heading into the last eight.
"I know that the team (Kenya Pipelines) is strong but our goal is to get to the semi-finals and we shall do everything to make sure we get there,” the former national team captain added.
Ndayikengurukiye’s decision to bring on Regina Izabayo in the fifth set turned out to be a great one as the left attacker time and again split the opponents’ blocks.
