PATIENCE and experience were the key traits that saw Ida Alexandra Humuza lift Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) over Cameroon’s Efuolon at Brookhouse gymnasium in Nairobi at the 24th edition of the Africa Women Volleyball Club Championships.
Humuza, who had a semi-professional stint at French side ‘Argenteuil’ saved the day after making eight straight points to rescue the tax collectors who were down 2-1 with 16-18 in the fourth set.
Good service forced a 24-18 lead that gave the Rwandan side an advantage of winning the set.
"Being calm helped me so much while I was serving and experience too was crucial at this level,” said the contented Humuza.
Despite the early win, RRA missed the services of Captain Dorcus Ndasaba who was blocked from playing because RRA failed to pay transfer fees to FIVB three months to the tournament.
However, game two on Saturday morning brought sorrow into the Rwandan camp when terrible service and reception handed an ordinary looking Algerian side-ASWB their first win of the tournament (3-1).
The North African club had crumbled to St. Denis Olympique 3-1 the previous day.
"It was a bad day for us as a team but not all hope is lost as we have to play hard tomorrow (today) and make sure we win.”
RRA play against St. Denis Olympique from Re-Union Islands.
