Allow me, through your esteemed newspaper, to respond to a story that appeared in yesterday’s issue of The NewTimes titled: "Local leaders receive GBV training.” Gender-based violence is a cancer which should be fought by all right thinking members of society.

Over the decades, GBV has been recognized and discussed as a public, rather than a private problem. It’s a public problem because, as human beings, we have to fight all evils that exist within our society. We should not leave the work for fighting this evil to police alone.

We should also encourage victims of gender-based violence to report the culprits.

While a lot has been done by the government in sensitizing the population about gender-based violence, the objectives will be fully achieved once all Rwandans get involved.
