Rwanda Independent Sports Journalists Association is set to pay tribute to fallen sports personalities and survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

 The Secretary General of the Association, Jean dieu Bagirisha told Times Sport yesterday that among the categories of people they plan to honor includes, fellow journalists, coaches, players, and federation workers, former officials of clubs and prominent fans that were killed during the Genocide.

"Just like the government honors politicians and other people that were killed during the Genocide, we also want to commemorate our fallen comrades, and other sports personalities that were killed during the Genocide,” Bagirisha said.

The ceremony will take place on April 9 and will include participants walking from Amahoro Stadium to Gisozi memorial site, a documentary about Fallen Sports Personalities and a night vigil that will be attended by sports survivors.

The Families of the fallen Sports personalities will also be present the ceremonies, and according to Bagirisha, officials from the office of the Prime Minister and Ministry of Sports are expected to grace the event.
