I wish to comment on a story that appeared in the yesterday’s issue of The NewTimes titled: Imbuto rewards best female students in Huye, Gisagara. Yes, children who excel academically should always be recognized.

The country has done well in promoting gender equality and we must keep the flame burning. What is clear is that, rewarding best female students is a good strategy that will, in the long run, make others compete in the hope that they get recognised too.

Imbuto Foundation has done a great job in promoting girl’s education because the best investment one would give a child is education.

Education helps girls claim their rights and realize their potential both economically and politically. However, the work to promote education is everybody’s responsibility. I would, therefore, appeal to other responsible citizens to support girls’ education.
