Emmanuel Ruterana and Jean Baptista Hakizimana, who took part in the KCB Open golf championship late last month, have been left out of the lucrative Kenya Open.
A disappointed Ruterana told Times Sport yesterday that they are now focusing on future events after organizers of the Kenya Open golf championship omitted their names from the entry list due to reasons that are yet to be known.
"We been have ruled out from competing in Kenya Open because organisers claimed that we didn’t register for the competition,” said Ruterana, adding that registration was done immediately after the KCB Open late last month.
Apart from Kenya, none of the East African country will be represented at this year’s edition of the Kenya Open, which has attracted foreign professional golfers.
About 150 golfers will be battling for the Kenya Shilling 190,000 (about Rwf160m) prize money. Kenya will be represented by 20 professional golfers while Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda were denied slots.
Other players will be drawn from Zimbabwe, Zambia, Nigeria, Egypt and Swaziland. The Kenyan Open is a challenge Tour event with more than half of the field occupied by the European players.
