If the word success was to be misspelled then it would be the Rwanda volleyball fraternity right now.

In the same week, both the men’s national team and women’s beach volleyball team qualified for the upcoming 10th edition of All Africa Games due in Maputo, Mozambique in September this year.

With the men absent at the inaugural show in Kampala over the weekend due to national team duty commitment in the just concluded Zone V qualifiers here, the women’s team put matters into their own hands by defying all odds to defeat the home team, Ugandan.

The pair of Emilienne Uwineza and Janette Niyigena and the duo of Judith Hakizimana and Charlotte Ndayisenga both earned a win each earlier on in the day which meant that they had to play a golden set against a Ugandan pair which also had a win each.

Rwanda maintained the pair of Uwineza and Niyigena but a change on the Ugandan side which paired Sharon Pajije and Josephine Namaganda, who had never played alongside each other before cost the hosts a 15-10 win for Rwanda.
   
"It is good that we qualified for the African showpiece yet it is the first time beach volleyball is going to be at this level,” said coach Sammy Mulinge.
 
The men’s pair of Flavien Ndamukunda and Jean Luc Mbonyuwontuma could not take part in the Kampala qualifiers because they were on the team that won the Zone V event at the weekend.
