The U-23 team coach Eric Nshimiyimana is optimistic his team will beat Zambia at home to reach the next round of the 2012 London Olympic Games qualifiers.

The Junior Wasps lost 2-0 away to Zambia in Lusaka on Sunday and despite the loss, Nshimiyimana is confident about his team’s chances of overturning the first leg deficit in Kigali in the return leg on the weekend of April 8-10.

"We had a poor start in the first leg but we can win at home with a bigger margin to reach the next round.

"Our defense committed regrettable mistakes in the first half which resulted in the two goals, but we will work to rectify those mistakes,” said the former Rwandan international, who blamed the loss to lack of experience his youngsters.

Zambia scored their goals from Roderick Kabwe and Roger Kola. With only three spots at stake for Africa, Nshimiyimana’s side must put on get a 3-0 goal win to ensure their qualification to the next round.

The 16 winners from the second round will be drawn into four groups of four.

The best three placed winners of each continent will advance to the Olympic Games while the fourth winner will go for a play-off with an Asia Football Confederation team for a final slot at the Olympics.
