Members of the East African Community Youth Organization (EACYO) will participate in the upcoming 17th commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

EACYO is a regional body aimed at engaging the youth from all partner states to strengthen and consolidate the realization of the goals and objectives enshrined in the treaty establishing the bloc.

Alloys Mutabingwa, the patron of EACYO and the deputy secretary general of the EAC (planning and infrastructure) said the visit will enable the youth understand what happened in Rwanda.

"We don’t want to see what happened in 1994 in Rwanda happen anywhere in our region or continent. That is why we decided to engage the youth so that they can disseminate this to the whole to the world,” Mutabingwa said.

He further explained that while here, the youth will receive a lecture on the impact of bad governance.
The team from the secretariat will also engage their counterparts here in discussions aimed at strengthening the EAC youth solidarity.

This year’s theme is: Commemorating the Genocide against Tutsi: Upholding the Truth; Preserving our Dignity.
