Girls from Rusizi and Nyamasheke districts in the Western Province were, yesterday, advised to work hard and be successful so as to contribute to the development of their communities.

The call was made by Senator Wellars Gasamagera, who represented the First Lady, Jeannette Kagame, during a ceremony to reward girls who performed exceptionally well in last year’s national examinations.

About 30 girls who completed primary, O’level and A level were rewarded by Imbuto Foundation.

Milene Sonia Uwase, the best P.6 student in Kamembe Sector, said she was privileged to be reorganized.
"It’s a privilege that I have been rewarded by the First Lady. I will work hard to excel,” Uwase said.

Phoebe Pendo Tako, another recipient from Nyakabuye Sector, said she was overwhelmed after being rewarded for the second time.

"I got rewarded after I emerged the best p.6 student in Nyakabuye Sector. I studied hard so that I could be the best in S.3, thank God I achieved it.”
Tako got distinctions in Mathematics, Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Kinya-rwanda.

"For sure my dreams are higher now. In few years to come, I will be the best Computer Engineer in Rwanda,” said. Edissa Mukarugamba, the best S.6 student in Nyamasheke district who got an A in Mathematics and Geography.

During the same ceremony, four guardian angels, commonly known as  Malayika Murinzi received cows for their role in raising children, not their own.

The rewarding of best performing girls was initiated in 2005 by Mrs Kagame to help promote girls education.
