Rwanda’s U-23 team battles Zambia this afternoon in the first leg of the under-23 Olympic qualifier preliminary round in Lusaka.
With only three spots at stake for Africa, coach Eric Nshimiyimana eyes an away win to ensure that Rwanda reaches the next round.
"Our aim is to win Sunday’s (today) game. It will be hard game because we will be playing away from home, but we are focused and ready to play our best,” said Nshimiyimana prior to the team’s departure to Lusaka on Friday.
Rwanda and other 24 other countries begun their campaign at the second round this weekend. The seven winners from the first round advanced to this group. The 16 winners from the second round will be drawn into four groups of four.
The best three placed winners of each continent will advance to the Olympic Games while the fourth winner will go for a play-off with an Asia Football Confederation team for a final slot at the Olympics.
