Rwanda wins Zone Five Qualifiers

Rwanda booked a place at the All Africa Games that will take place in Maputo-Mozambique in September after winning the Zone Five Qualifiers after defeating Uganda 3-1.

After defeating tournament favourities Kenya on Friday, the National team did not seem to be at their best yesterday. Rwanda won the first set 25-19, but the Ugandans stormed back to take the second after defeating the hosts 25-21.

Yakan Lawrence’s strong spikes helped Rwanda win the third set 25-21.

The fourth set was furiously contested for thanks to Uganda’s never die attitude but the National team edged their opponents 25-21.

Captain Mukunzi Christophe blamed fatigue for the team’s labored win over Uganda.

Rwanda’sYakan Lawrence was named the best player of the tournament.

Four teams took part in the three day tourney that cost Frw 80m.
