Patrick Kamuntu scored a game-high 17 points as Cercle Sportif (CSK B) won the 2008 Nile Day Cup on Thursday.

With 20 seconds left and the score 49-48 in favor of CSK B, AGF missed four free throws to dent their chances of a late surge at Amahoro indoor courts.

Despite AGF claiming the third and fourth quarters 11-08, 12-11, CSK B’s physical presence, superior ball handling and pace epitomized by Kamuntu gave them a 30-25 lead at half time which proved very decisive at the end of the day.

After being crowned champions, Emmanuel Rugumire, the National project coordinator for the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) commended both teams for putting up an outstanding performance.

"It was very close and exciting game," he acknowledged.

"The NBI theme for this year is ‘the youth’ so we saw it fit to stage such a tournament. We have started with basketball but we intend to expand in other sporting disciplines as well," Rugumire continued.

"After a false debut in last year’s league, this victory is a bit of a consolation for us," Kamuntu said.
