I am writing this week’s articles with a lot of difficulty because during rainy days my health fails me. One thing that has so continued to guide me to take care of myself is how to dress for this weather ever since I was a young girl.

It has not been easy with the heavy downpours making it difficult to make a fashion statement for some ladies these days, but with well-chosen pieces, one will be able to beat the weather and while protecting themselves as well.

Umbrella

Lucky for us, we don’t need to wear a lot to protect us from the rain. All we need to be cautious about is how to keep the mud, the rain, and cold winds away. What better way to do it than with a sturdy umbrella? Just remember to check if your umbrella’s material can withstand this country’s heavy winds and hard rains.

Boots

You may have said goodbye to your favourite flip-flops, but this season is the perfect excuse to say hello to fabulous boots! Boots are the perfect way to conceal your legs from the mud splatter and wet feet.

The ballet flats and flip flops should take a back seat in your shoe rack during this season, boots will not only keep your feet dry but will also give you the warmth that you will so much need. 

Leggings and stockings

If you’re one of those girls who can’t seem to part with their miniskirts and denim skirts, fret not; there’s still hope for you. If you insist on wearing your short skirts and dresses, then better keep your legs protected with leggings and stockings.

Showing off your legs in the summer is sexy, but showing off your legs and your goose bumps during the rainy season is not.

Trousers

In this torrential weather, you’ll never know when you have to tread in the rain any time of the day. Trousers are ideal during this time because they keep you warm. It is advised not to wear jeans during this time because jeans tend to get heavy when wet, it’s better for you to avoid wearing them during the rain.

If one has beautiful and functional pants they look divine and chic if worn with the right boots during this season.

Knee-length skirts and long sleeved tops
Knee-length skirts are chic, but only if you know how to don them in style. The mini may be a classic, but the knee-length skirt holds it own better when the rain starts to pour.

Long sleeved tops not only makes one look leaner, but they also keep your arms warm during this rainy season. Whatever your style preference may be, knee length skirts and long sleeves are the way to go this season.

Jackets, cardigans, and hoodies

I have so many sweaters myself, who could survive the rainy days without at least one pair of these three? There are a lot of styles to choose from, tailored jackets gives you a structured look when going to work, cardigans usually softens the hard look , and hoodies are good when a person feels relaxed and is casually dressed.

Scarves

A scarf can be your only protection when heavy rains start pouring and you are sans umbrella. A scarf, aside from being a fashionable addition to your wardrobe, can also protect you when harsh winds start blowing. Love it or hate it, you can’t deny that scarves are functional and fashionable at the same time.

Leather bags

Leather bags are the best totes this season because they are waterproof and do not absorb water and help to keep your bag’s contents dry.

It does not matter if one can’t have all these invaluable pieces all at a go, a few of these pieces can do the trick to beat the weather.

coat

Invest in a good coat that you will look good in… If you have a chance to buy a designer piece, go for it! A good Italian or French wool coat will last you 3 years minimum and you’ll be seen wearing it most of the time! So you will definitely get the money worth it, even if the coat will cost you around $1.000!

In terms of colors, black, brown and gray are the traditional hues for winter coats and you will see these colors on most women, but if you truly want to stand out from the winter crowd, a little attitude won’t hurt.

Venture in bright plaids, animal prints, pinks, reds, or go all white (or beige) for a fabulous winter look that will pop. I know, the dry cleaning bill will be huge (if you go white), but it will be worth every single penny!
