Preparations for Primus Guma Guma Super Star (PGGSS) are in high gear.

The competition is the first of its kind and it will bring together all local musicians. Primus Guma Guma Super Star is organised by Bralirwa Ltd in partnership with the ‘East African Party.’

Many artists have already started exhibiting skill, strength, courage and determination in singing, as they waited for the music competition auditions to kick-off in May.

Speaking to journalists, Alexander Koch, Commercial Director of Bralirwa Ltd, said the main objective of the competition is to improve local music industry.

Joseph Mushyoma, boss of the ‘East African Party’ said contestants must be Rwandans, above 18 years and, must be pursuing their music career in the country.

The contest will be carried out in three phases and the public will be allowed to vote by sending one SMS per phase.

Meanwhile, a meeting between organsiers and the contestants is scheduled for March 31, when they will be informed about Primus Guma Guma Super Star and will sign contracts to participate in the competition.

When the competition  starts, the contestants will perform with a live band and the judgment will be based on their performances.

A road show will be held in different parts of the country, including Huye, Rusizi, Nyamagabe, Karongi, Muhanga, Byumba, Kibungo, Rubavu, Ruhengeri, Kigali and Nyagatare, as contestants will be encouraging fans to support them during the competition.

"Apart from the road shows, the contestants will have enough time on radios and TV for their campaign,” Mushyoma said.

During the pre-selections, each contestant will perform one song and spectators will a have a chance to cast votes for their favorite artists.

On the grand finale, four finalists will perform three songs that featured in the competition.

The eventual winner will receive a grand prize of Rwf6, 000,000, sign a one year contract to promote Primus and record a song and its video with international star, Sean Kingston, who is expected to perform at the closing night. The event will be spiced up with fireworks.
