The local cricket governing body (RCA) has started its search for a national coach who will handle the senior national cricket team ahead of the forth coming World Cricket League in South Africa.

The development comes days after Rwanda landed an invitation from the ICC (the world cricket governing body) to take part in the affiliate’s tournament that will run from April 13-18 in Johannesburg.

Rwanda has made two appearances in the world cricket league.

On her debut appearance in 2004, the team was under William Kamanyi, a former Uganda coach and ICC East African Development Officer.

And two years later when Rwanda made her second appearance, the team traveled without a coach but still managed to finish fourth behind eventual champions Mozambique, Sierra Leone and Ghana.

According to RCA, Rwanda’s immediate neighbor Uganda seems to be the best option for a coach.

"Recent performances tell it all for Uganda. They have taken great strides in recent years and are at a different level now," one RCA official who preferred anonymity said.

However, it is not yet certain if RCA will approach Kamanyi or look else where.

"We have a number of options on the table and Kamanyi is one of them," the official stated.

The 22-man provisional team which was named by RCA last Sunday is expected to start serious training in mid-March when the on-going RCA league ends.
