KIGALI - Rwanda will benefit from hosting the East African Legislative Assembly session due to commence in Kigali from March 29 at the Parliamentary buildings, the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Rose Mukantabana said.

She made the remarks while speaking to journalists after receiving the EALA Speaker Abdirahim H. Abdi at Kigali International Airport.

The Speaker pointed out that the session was an opportunity for the Rwandan Parliament to learn how it operates.

"We will be able to learn proper ways of legislation as it is done by EALA, through following their sessions,” Mukantabana said.

The EALA MP from Rwanda, Patricia Hajabakiga, said she had prepared a Bill on environmental protection aimed at eradicating polythene bags in the region.

"If this was possible in Rwanda, I strongly believe other countries can also achieve it,” Hajabakiga said.

The Legislators will also celebrate the 10th EALA Anniversary and participate in the 17th commemorations of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsis.
