As a way of facilitating media practitioners to access information, the Ministry of Information will introduce a media centre.

This was announced this week by the Minister of information, Protais Musoni.

"The centre is one of the measures the government is putting in place to implement its decision of ensuring faster and efficient flow of information to the public,” Musoni said.

The decision was taken during the February Kivu retreat where the government resolved to increasing communication channels to ensure public awareness of it policies.

Musoni said that the centre will be operational by April.

Other measures in the same line will be the boosting of institutional websites to facilitate access to government information and services.

"We shall also conduct field visits and outreach programmes in partnership with other government institutions to create awareness and ownership of government programmes,” he said.

Besides these measures, the minister said that the government is also strengthening partnerships with NGOs and other relevant bodies to disseminate government policies, strategies, and programmes.

"This will result into increased coordination of government communication to ensure wider access to government information,” he said.
 
The Minister added that the government is in the process of developing a New Media Policy and Communication strategy aimed at providing necessary guidance and developmental guidelines for the media and communication sector.

"The enactment of the media policy will be an important step in professionalizing the media in Rwanda, in line with the economic and political developments,” he said.
