Reigning national league champions APR set up this weekend’s clash against arch-rivals Rayon in style after Wednesday’s 2-0 win over AS Kigali as Nyamirambo stadium.
Two second half goals from Jean Baptista Mugiraneza and Masudi Kaka left APR one point off the pace at the top of the table.
Atraco are still top of the table with 24 points, Kiyovu and Mukura are third and fourth with 19 and 16 points while 2004 champions Rayon are in a distant fifth spot with 14 points.
Despite a poor start to this year’s national league, APR has been drawn out to have the best defense after conceding only two goals.
The results also showed APR’s quick recovery after Saturday’s 1-2 loss to El Zamalek in the 2008 Caf Champions League.
Similarly, the blues lost 0-2 to Harar beer of Ethiopia in the first leg of the Caf Confederations Cup.
Their rival clash with Rayon Sport is one of the big tasks that await Coach Andia Mfutila this weekend.
With Kabange Twite and Haruna Niyonzima doubtful for the weekend game, Rayon may use this opportunity to ensure Coach Raoul Shungu’s victory over the military side since overtaking the club’s managerial duties for the third spell early this year.
The blues will miss the services of their influential Kenyan born goal custodian Lawrence Webo who has two accumulated yellow cards and midfielder Kalisa Kase who went AWOL(Away Without Official Leave).
