NYAGATARE – There is a lot schools in the UK can learn from their Rwandan counterparts, officials from the Global school partnership said.

Trillings Hellen, who headed a delegation from UK Global schools partnership, made the remarks while touring schools in Nyagatare District, last week.

The Global school partnership is a programme financed by the British Council. It encourages partnership between schools in the UK and various secondary schools in Nyagatare.

"We have learnt many things like learning and teaching experiences…collaboration between parents and teachers to provide quality education and teaching styles in Rwandan schools,” Hellen said.

She added that her delegation and Nyagatare head teachers exchanged views on school management skills.

Hellen pledged continuous partnership between UK and Rwanda schools to promote quality education.

Nyagatare District director of education, Martin Hakizimana, says a number of head teachers have visited UK schools and acquired knowledge that is applicable in their schools ever since the new partnership was started.

Hassan Murenzi, the head teacher of Karangazi Secondary School, says he learnt more teaching styles from the UK which he hoped to share with other teachers.

According to Emellienne Kayitasirwa, from Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO), that coordinates the partnership programme, the cooperation between schools in Nyagatare and UK is part of VSO’s vision of developing young Rwandan professionals capable of competing on the global market.
