The Media High Council, Civic Education, and Gacaca courts are among the institutions whose budgets received a boost during the midterm budget review.

This was disclosed, last week, by the parliamentary Committee on the National Budget while presenting its report on the state finances for the 2010/2011 fiscal year.

Constance Mukayuhi Rwaka, the president of the commission told the house that despite the reviews, the overall budget remained more less the same. (slightly above Rwf 984bn).

She said there was some funds reallocations among ministries with regard to priorities where the President’s Office’s budget received a boost from various ministerial budgets to support Itorero ry’iglhugu (Civic education) which falls under the Office of the President.

Other Ministries whose budgets were increased include; the Prime Minister’s Office, to boost the Media High Council’s budget, and the Ministry of Justice to support Gacaca Courts.

The ministry of Local Government also saw its budget increased due to various activities under the ministry which are considered by the government as priority areas in its development targets.

Some ministries that saw their budgets cut include; that of Finance and Economic Planning, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Youth, and the Ministry of Health.
After deliberations, the House accepted the report and unanimously passed it.
