Can Tetteh guide Rwanda to CAN 2012?

Though Sellas Tetteh showed potential by guiding Ghana’s under-20 national team to the world championship crown, the Ghanaian is yet to replicate the same form during his tenure as Amavubi stars head coach. Sellas Tetteh has already expressed his discomfort with professional players right from the early days.

Though Sellas Tetteh showed potential by guiding Ghana’s under-20 national team to the world championship crown, the Ghanaian is yet to replicate the same form during his tenure as Amavubi stars head coach.

Ever since he landed the Amavubi stars job, the soft spoken tactician is yet to show he’s a top manager. Coaching professional is accredited by winning games and trophies, so Rwandans expect Tetteh to deliver good results.

Of course Rwandese should not expect Amavubi stars to perform or achieve like Black Stars but at least see our team improving progressively.

Now, the crucial time for Rwandans to watch the national team playing again has come. The Amavubi stars have started intensive preparations for their CAN 2012qualification against Burundi and coach Tetteh has already promised a three-pointer.

Amavubi stars are drawn alongside Ivory Coast, Benin and Burundi and lay bottom of the table standings, a reason that has created panic amongst the national team pundits and fans alike.

The team lost their opening two games of the campaign against Ivory Coast in Abuja and fell to Benin 3-1 at home. Burundi snatched a point a way from Benin and are in third position.

In this qualification campaign, Tetteh’s men lost stamina when they fell behind Benin, a game that they needed to win or draw to keep their qualification hopes a live.

With international calendar now on offing, Tetteh still has a point or two to prove to Rwandans that he is a top level coach by guiding Rwanda to victory against much improved Burundi team.

Being the head coach, Tetteh must choose the best players to represent the national team and is expected to field his strongest side against Burundi.

The tactician was accused of dropping many senior national team players, a factor that has been attributed to his poor performance during the first two opening qualifiers.

If Amavubi can win at least three of their remaining four games, then qualification is at stake. Amavubi has to play two games against Burundi and only 6 points can resurrect their chances of being on the plane to Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, the two countries that will co-host the 2012 Nations Cup.

Amavubi fans will also play that Benin fall to Ivory Coast. Benin has two games against Ivory Coast hoping that the Elephants crush them and come up with maximum six points.

If Benin can lose their next two games against Ivory Coast and Amavubi bags six points from Burundi, then second spot will be up for grabs.

In the last two qualification games, Amavibi has started with different players another detrimental condition is spot.
A winning team always needs to have players playing together for a long period of time or regularly. Amavubi lacks this condition because has started different games with new or missing faces.

Coordination is an important factor in sports and you do not gain this if the team has not trained together for some time.

Burundi is one of improving teams in the region and trick behind their recent good performance is having young players that have been playing together for some time.

This is why Amavubi will face strong resistance to dislodge their neighbors on a two-legged encounter.
