Musanze - Sonrise high school in Musanze District, yesterday, awarded scholarships to its best senior six performers in last year’s national exams.

This was during the school’s 10thth anniversary celebrations held in Musanze District.

Gilbert Kanamugire walked away with the ultimate servant leadership award of a four-year university scholarship worth US$2500 annually.

"We congratulate the pioneers upon the successful achievement given the fact that they started out under difficult conditions of 1997-2001 insurgency,” said Bishop John Rucyahana, the founder of the school.

Other beneficiaries of the sponsorships were Celestin Mucyo Mugesera, Remy Kevis Manzi Irene Izihirwe Mahanga and Ruth Umutesi Rehema.

Sonrise was established ten years ago as a partnership between Rucyahana, a retired Bishop and current president of the Unity and Reconciliation Commission and the Mustard Seed Project in the United States of America.

The Bishop attributes the success of the school to God who gave him the idea to start it in the first place since God had seen it as "the priority in the country after the Genocide.”

"The motive was to put orphans of the Genocide and children orphaned by the insurgents back in school to give them hope as we started the reconciliation campaign,” said Rucyahana.
