MUHANGA – Local leaders in Muhanga District are hopeful that the modified health Insurance policy, which allows subscribers to access healthcare from any part of the country, will ensure timely treatment.
The district director of Health Insurance, Anastasie Urusaro said the move will result in higher premiums – in excess of the current 70% in the district performance contract.
He was speaking at the launch of the revised health insurance policy (commonly known as Mutuelle de Santé) in Muhanga this week.
The policy, he explained, is all-inclusive and critical in addressing complaints normally raised by patients.
"Unlike in the past, the policy now enables residents to access healthcare in any region, free ambulance, and covers medical bills. With this, we expect wider participation since residents now fully understand the benefits health insurance,” Urusaro said.
Hertilan Inyarubuga, the executive secretary of the National Health Insurance Programme, encouraged local leaders to educate communities on the value and importance of health insurance.
Inyarubuga said the new policy was in response to the recommendations by residents, urging the public to start up saving schemes for health insurance contributions.
