For quite some time, I have made a close follow up of anti-HIV/Aids clubs in Rwandan schools and I must say it is rather an impressive progress. The campaign is emphasized by the National Aids Control Commission (CNLS). It is an effective strategy to control the prevalence of the disease among the youth.

The scheme that is sponsored by Bush’s President’s Emergency Plan for Aids Relief (PEPFAR) is part of the innovative youth programme called Abajene (the youth) implemented by PSI with the aim of reducing HIV/Aids incident through increasing safer sexual behaviors among youths in the country. Bush has even promised to continue supporting all initiatives that are geared towards fighting HIV/Aids in Rwanda.

I advise that students who are members of these clubs should sensitise their fellow students to abstain from premature sex through drama, songs and dialogues. They should also use all the possible means to see that their colleagues are not in anyway trapped by blood thirsty people who want to stop at nothing but spread HIV to anyone.

This should not be left to students alone. Parents must also play a leading role in teaching their children about the dangers of the deadly disease.
