A great wedding day is an organized one. An organized wedding requires a lot of effort, money, time, commitment and you can name the rest but there are things that you can’t forget or substitute.

John Kalimba, 30 years, a businessman in Rwanda and Uganda has coordinated four weddings and attended 10, hosting over 300 guests. He takes us through the journey of what he considers when organizing a successful wedding day.
Gown and Suits
When everyone is planning for the wedding, the dresses are the first thing to be covered on the budget. Expensive or cheap a gown and suits have to be worn—without them, you can’t have a wedding.
Video and Photography
Since its one day in your lifetime, people would like to have memories to share for generations to come. Through photographs, friends and relatives who never attended your wedding day can have a glimpse of a past wedding. Even though video coverage is expensive for some at least spare some money for five photos.
Transport
Just think of one wedding that you have attended and never had transportation. It is chaotic and frustrating. No one wants to have angry and tired guests who came walking all the way to see you. Please if you love your partner and you really respect them provide transportation in time.
Saloon
Going to an expensive or cheap saloon does not matter as longer as you trust the hairdresser not to make a mess of your hair. Choose hairstyles that are jovial and comfortable because during olden days of our grandparents used to have their Amasuzu hairstyle re-shaved so that they can make a difference on the wedding day.
Decoration
If we can make our homes look good why not on your wedding day that happens once? Decorations are very important because they make church and reception venues colourful and vibrant. Plan for it.
Entertainment
Don’t let your wedding day look like a Kilio (funeral) or make some of the Kilio’s look better than your wedding day. There are is no reasonable excuse why guests should not be entertained on your wedding day. A family member who is a comedian can make audiences shutter with laughter.
Coordinator
It’s not easy for a bride and groom to co-ordinate their own wedding, and that is why someone with high organizational skills need to step-up. The wedding coordinator must keep time since people sacrifice their time and come for your wedding. Please don’t keep them waiting because some have work and other important matters to attend to.
Protocol team
Using an efficient service team will make your wedding day memorable. It is not all about the money you spend on your budget, not the even how you decide to conduct your wedding but the conduct of those in charge of protocol who will make your wedding either a bad or great day.
Food and Beverage
Remember guests have contributed to your budget, therefore drinks and food should be included as part of the celebration. Remember people spend the whole day with you, and it is unfair to starve them on your wedding day. Besides what is a celebration without food and drink?
After party
Not all weddings must have an after party. However if you can afford one, it adds icing to the cake. Celebrate, drink and laugh till the end of the day. That is what I call a wedding.
