Rwanda’s quest to land ICC (International Cricket Council)’s Associate status will be tested to the limit when the senior national cricket team takes on its fellow Affiliate counterparts in this year’s ICC world cricket league slated for April 13-18 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Rwanda has made two appearances in these qualifiers. On her debut appearance in 2004,
Rwanda finished sixth in an eight-nation tournament while in 2006; she made a vast improvement finishing fourth.

Mozambique who were crowned champions in 2006 after ousting Sierra Leone in a thrilling final were given associate status by the ICC, the global cricket governing body.
Other countries that will lock horns with Rwanda come April include Sierra Leone, Ghana, Morocco, Swaziland, Lesotho, Gambia and Malawi.

Rwanda Cricket Association has laid out a vast preparation program for the senior national cricket team ahead of the rainbow nation event.

The Association has also named a 22-man provisional squad from which 14 players will be selected to represent the country in South Africa.

The provisional team includes four youngsters following the U-15s remarkable show in last year’s ACA East African regional tournament that was staged in Nairobi.
The four include Evode Mutuyimana, Joseph Tuyisenge, Jean Paul Harindintwari and Fiston Nsengiyumva.
"The boys have great talent and have equal chances of travelling to South Africa just like the rest. They have the whole of March to show us (RCA) how prepared they are for the task in South Africa,” one RCA official noted.
