RWANDAN quartet managed to stroll to the next round of the lucrative Uganda Open after overpowering their Ugandan counterparts yesterday at Lugogo Tennis Club, Kampala.

Even though heavy rains disrupted the start of the tournament, Rwandans had a busy morning yesterday after being forced to play their first round fixtures.

Rwanda’s top seed Dieudonne Habiyambere had an easy go-through as he beat Uganda’s Steven Ayela in straight sets 6-1 6-1.

The 2008 losing finalist Gasigwa beat Henry Mayanja also in straight sets 6-3 6-3 in one of only six first round matches played on Tuesday, when heavy downpour forced most the matches to be called off.

Olivier Nkunda and Anatole Bizimana marched into the second round after a 6-1 6-2 and 6-1 6-1 victories over Ugandan pair of Moses Otiti and Andrew Ojok respectively.
However, Mathiew Uwizeyimana lost to the defending champion Duncan Mugabe 6-1 2-6.
