After a hasty exit from the lucrative sunshine tour, Rwanda’s top golfer Emmanuel Ruterana is eager to restore his dignity and confidence when he competes in the three-day UGC Centennial celebrations tournament at Kampala’s Kitante golf course.

Speaking to Times Sport, Ruterana identified Deo Akope, Amos Kamya and Godfrey Mande as his key rivals in the Shs 9 million (approx. Frw 3million) event which tees-off today.

"It’s a big test for me because the lads have been gearing up for this tournament since last week. They are also very had to beat at their home,” the BCR sponsored golfer noted.

However, Ruterana should also been on the look out for the newly promoted Steven Birungi.

The three time Uganda Open champion turned pro last week and instantly registered his first silverware in the pro ranks after claiming the February edition of the lucrative MTN monthly mug.

Besides the pro category, juniors and amateurs have also been drafted in the competition that is celebrating Uganda Golf Club (UGC)’s 100th anniversary.

Although the number of golfers lined up for the event was not available by press time, UGC publicist John Mwalimu expects a wide range of golfers from South Africa, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Zambia.
