NYAGATARE – The new Governor of Eastern Province, Dr. Aisa Kirabo, has advised livestock farmers in Nyagatare, Kayonza and Gatsibo districts to ensure production of quality milk.

Speaking at a meeting in Nyagatare, Kirabo reminded farmers that the province is the main source of the country’s milk and advised them to work hard to improve on its production.

"The same way other regions specialise in particular products such Irish potatoes, you also have a chance to supply milk across country and beyond. It’s time for you to become the country’s role models in milk production,” she said.

The meeting was attended by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Emmanuel Hategeka, the Managing Director of Inyange Industries, Rama Kant
Pande, Rwanda Animal Resources Development Authority (RARDA) officials, among others.

ama Kant Pandey assured farmers of market for their milk production. "Starting from today, I assure you that Inyange is ready to purchase whatever quantity of milk you will produce…but this will also depend on its quality,” he said.

Ignatius Butera, a farmer from Rwimiyaga Sector in Nyagatare District asked the officials to provide them with milk testing machines to help ensure quality milk.

Currently, farmers supply over 25, 000 litres of milk to Nyagatare Savannah dairy everyday.
