UK charity group, Cricket without Borders has aided local schools with cricket equipment worth frw 3 millions. The equipment includes bats, pads, balls and a practice net. Rwanda Cricket Association’s Secretary General Emmanuel Byiringiro told Times Sport that the group which consists of 7 coaches and volunteers would also use cricket to teach local youngsters the importance of protecting themselves against HIV and AIDS.
"They have been coming to Rwanda for the last three years and they always give us equipment and also train our coaches,” Byiringiro said.
The charity group has already visited schools in Kigali and Muhanga and is also scheduled to travel to schools in Musanze and Huye.
Meanwhile, the national cricket team continues its daily training schedule at Kicuriko ahead of next month’s ICC Africa T20 Division 2 tournament in South Africa.
The tournament, slated to run from April 23-28, will attract eleven teams drawn into two groups.
Rwanda, who qualified after winning last month’s ICC Africa Division 3 tournament in Ghana, are drawn in Group B alongside Malawi, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Nigeria and Tanzania.
Group A pits favourites Uganda against Botswana, Zambia, Swaziland and Mozambique.
