Notre Dame dominate women’s rugby event

Nyamagabe District based Groupe Scolaire Notre Dame beat six other girls’ teams to lift the International Women’s Day trophy on Saturday. The competition organized by Lions des fer rugby club also attracted 5 men’s clubs. The national side, the Silverbacks, who are travelling to Hong Kong this Saturday also featured in a bid to test their strength.

Nyamagabe District based Groupe Scolaire Notre Dame beat six other girls’ teams to lift the International Women’s Day trophy on Saturday.

The competition organized by Lions des fer rugby club also attracted 5 men’s clubs. The national side, the Silverbacks, who are travelling to Hong Kong this Saturday also featured in a bid to test their strength.

Notre Dame in its maiden competition showed no respect for seasoned Remera-Rukoma which hoped to add another trophy to its cabinet.

In the men’s category, Remera Buffaloes shrugged off all contenders beating tournament organizers, Lions des fer, in the final.

Jean de la paix Hategekimana a.k.a Heavy, on behalf of Lions des fer, thanked all participants,  Sulfo Rwanda for the trophies, Dj Kadir and his Ruff Cuts Djs plus Green Hills Academy for the venue.

He also said in a bid to promote women’s rugby, more tournaments are planned in the future.
Notre Dame’s Ernestine and Remere-Rukoma’s Sofie Kanakuze were also recognised for their outstanding game.
Newly created Muhanga RFC also put up spirited performances.

Teams that took part include; Groupe Scolaire  Remera-Rukoma, College Appec Remera-Rukoma, Groupe Scolaire St. Paul, Emeru Ruhango A, Emeru Ruhango B, Groupe Scolaire Notre Dame, Cyanika A, Cyanika  B and Lions De Fer Rfc.
