GATSIBO – AVSI, an Italian NGO, on Friday, commissioned houses, worth Rwf162 million, for 54 vulnerable families in Muhura Sector, Gatsibo District. The houses, according to AVSI officials, are part of the organisation’s mission of helping the government in fighting poverty in the district.

The houses were constructed in three phases between 2008 and 2010. Speaking at the ceremony, Calvin Guido, AVSI country representative, challenged the beneficiaries to take good care of the houses.
"We have played our role ... You now have full ownership of the houses but you should take good care of them,” he said.
He promised Muhura residents continuous support in promoting their welfare. "We plan to set up more projects that will transform your livelihoods,” he promised.
One of the beneficiaries, Emmanuel Ahiboneye, formerly living in a thatched house, thanked the NGO for the gesture.
"I am so excited! I can now sigh with relief after many years of living in a mud and wattle thatched house. I thank AVSI for its charitable mission,” he said.
