Dear Editor,
I read with excitement a story that was published in The New Times dated February 15, in which Rwandatel and Huawei Technologies, a telecommunication network signed a $35 million network expansion contract.
It was agreed that the landline network will be replaced by Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).
This development has put a smile on the faces of many who will soon be relieved of the MTN network monopoly and the disadvantages that come along with it. It is no wonder that MTN has gotten into a frenzy panic and reduced both local and international call tariffs by almost half! At least the wake up call has enabled MTN to charge realistic tariffs.
Now that Rwandatel has taken route, I hope that it charges affordable tariffs and offers better services.
I request that this telecommunication network also rolls out advanced infrastructure to support its network services countrywide.
However, caution should be taken when dealing other telecommunications to avoid call tariff wars, like other neighbouring countries.
If all goes well, I believe that Rwandatel will grow into a highly profitable and socially beneficial firm.
