Rwanda Events Management and well-wishers, last Saturday, donated foodstuffs and household equipment to orphans of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, in Byimana, Ruhango District. The donation, worth Rwf1.5 million, was handed over in a colourful ceremony that marked the end of a month-long love campaign which kicked-off with a gala dinner at Lemigo Hotel on Valentines’ Day, February 14.
Rwanda Events Management and well-wishers, last Saturday, donated foodstuffs and household equipment to orphans of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, in Byimana, Ruhango District.
The donation, worth Rwf1.5 million, was handed over in a colourful ceremony that marked the end of a month-long love campaign which kicked-off with a gala dinner at Lemigo Hotel on Valentines’ Day, February 14.
Speaking to The New Times, an official from Rwanda Events Management, Olivier Bangemu Rwabukera, said: "We need to support the orphans in capacity building so they can be independent and make use of the assistance we give to them.”
"We are committed to given them further support of over fifteen sewing machines, to support and advocate for the orphans in finding solutions to their current problem,” he added.
Mireille Candali, the Financial Manager of the firm, noted that the aim of the campaign was to extend love and affection to vulnerable Rwandans.
"We hope that this will spread throughout the community and people will learn to love other" Candali said.
Rwabukera shared his experience with the orphans and encouraged them to be courageous, disciplined and zealous in finding solutions to life changes.
"Solutions must from within us and, by working together, in extending love and helping hand as one people,” he said.
Gilbert Karekezi, a representative of the orphan's association, said the donation will help more than 61 orphans and thanked their donors support.
"We are touched by this sign of love and we hope that others can do similar acts of charity to the needy" he said.
During the event, the orphans also mentioned some of their needs, including, jobs, equipment, school fees and counseling.
The Love Campaign started with a concert at Petit Stade on International Women’s Day. Mico, Dr. Claude, Just Family and Dream, Jean Mutsari and Kenya’s renowned artist, Kim Thuita performed at the event.
The charitable campaign was organised by Rwanda Flora, Brand Smart and Contact FM, and sponsored by Bralirwa, Fina Bank, Cogear, Intersec, Ameki Color and Rwanda Development Bank (BRD).
