Jean Claude Gasigwa was consoled with Kshs 10,000 (Frw0.69m) prize money after losing the doubles’ final to Duncan Mugabe and Allan Cooper in the Kenya Tennis Open which climaxed yesterday in Nairobi.

Gasigwa who teamed up with Kenya’s Francis Rogoi lost to Mugabe and Cooper in straight sets 6-2 6-2 to end hopes of securing any silverware in the lucrative tournament. Mugabe and Cooper earned a Kshs 20,000 each.

In the single’s category, Mugabe proved why he is still the leading player in the region as he easily dispatched Kenyan top seed Cooper 6-2 6-1 to win the Kenya Open for the second year running. Mugabe had ousted Gasigwa in the semi-finals in a three sets thriller 6-2 6-2 7-5.
