COPEDU to open more branches

KIGALI - COPEDU Duterimbere, a Savings and Credit Cooperative, is preparing to open several new branches across the country.

This was announced, yesterday, by Rose Uwagirisa, the President of COPEDU Board of Directors, during their public speaking at the cooperative’s head office in Kicukiro District.

Uwagirisa said that currently, the cooperative only operates within Kigali city where it has six branches in Kimironko, City Centre, Nyabugogo, Remera, Gisozi and Kicukiro.

"COPEDU was founded in 1997 with 610 members, but in 2010, we had 12,656. So it is in this regard that we want to open branches in rural areas in order to extend the services we offer to our clients out there,” Uwagirisa said.

She that since 1997, COPEDU’s share capital increased from Rwf6.1million to Rwf126.5million, adding that its total asset rose from Rwf6million to over Rwf2.1billion.

 Speaking to The Sunday Times shortly after the function, Uwagirisa noted that they are planning to enhance their savings and credit policies in facilitating the population to involve in income generating projects.
