The Rwanda Gorilla Mountain rally bound Kenyan driver Asad Anwar has been banned ahead of the second round of the African Rally Championship due in Uganda.
According to a Ugandan Vernacular daily Bukedde, Anwar has been banned by the Confederation of African Countries in Motorsport (CACMS) for ramming into fellow driver Jamie Whyte with intent in the just concluded Alliance Insurance Kobil Rally in Tanzania.
Anwar was blamed by fellow drivers for various indispline cases which included delaying and denying fellow drivers way in the Tanzania rally, a feat which forced the continental Motorsport body to suspend him.
Asad will miss the Uganda Pearl of Africa rally which is scheduled for April 25-27 after the would-be ARC second round of KCB Safari rally was postponed due to the on-going violence in Kenya.
The Kenyan driver will return back to action taking part in the Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally slated for May 30- June 1 in Kigali.
Meanwhile, the local automobile club (RAC) president Dismus Kayibanda told Times Sport yesterday that these are the minor behaviors which are set to be eliminated among many continental drivers.
"This should also be a lesson to Rwandan drivers who want to elevate their motor sporting levels. If what Asad did is true, then he deserves the punishment," Kayibanda said.
