The 10000 tonnes cleaning, drying and storage facility being constructed by government will increase food security, an official said.  The Silos project is funded by the Ministry of Agriculture.

John Habimana, the Technical Director of ABCD, the company overseeing the construction of the project, said that 50 percent of the work has been completed so far.
"Farmers have been incurring losses as a result of producing yields that exceed demand during the harvest season. With this storage facility, the Ministry will be able to buy seeds during harvesting season and sell them to farmers at reasonable price during dry season,” said Habimana.

According to the company management, the civil work is slated to be completed at the end of July, 2011.

Habimana said that he is glad to see that the project is being constructed bye Rwandan engineers.

This shows that the country is able to fund big projects using its own funds.
"This project will facilitate in agricultural produce storage and reducing food losses, and providing seeds to farmers at cheaper prices,” he noted.
The project constitutes five storage facilities each with a capacity of 2000 tonnes.
