RAYON Sport boss Andy Mfutila has spoken of how he is ready to face former club APR ahead of tomorrow’s Primus National Football League (PNFL) clash at Amahoro stadium.
Since his controversial departure back in 2008, the Congolese tactician had never set foot in Rwanda.

However, this Saturday, he leads out his side hoping to leave a scar on the reigning champions, who top the league charts with 27 points after a run of nine wins in as many games.

After his two-year coaching stint at APR, Mfutila does not need to be reminded what victory means for Rayon fans.
Mfutila joined APR in 2007 and won five trophies (two league titles, two Amahoro Cups and one Cecafa Club Championship).

While speaking to Times Sport yesterday, the Congolese said that while he still has a soft spot for the army side, his task is to take them down this weekend.

"I know I can walk through APR doors with my head held high because of what I achieved with the club but my focus is to do well in the job I have at the moment and that is with Rayon,”

"This is one of the fiercest rivalries in the region and know what it means for the fans,” Mfutila added.
APR enjoys a ten-point lead over Rayon but a win over the Blues would trim it down to seven.

One of the reasons Rayon signed Mfutila is to halt the club’s trophy drought. Rayon’s last trophy was the league title back in 2004.

Despite only one defeat (against Kiyovu), Rayon’s title hunt has been undermined by many draws (five).

APR also have their own scores to settle after a hasty exit in the Orange Champions League. The army side was knocked out in the first preliminary round after losing out to Tunisia’s Club Africain on goal aggregates (2-6).

While the military side still has a lot to learn in continental competitions, their domestic form has been phenomenal over the years.

Since their inception back in 1994, they have won a record 12 league titles and Mfutila acknowledges that it will not be easy to unseat the runaway champions.

"They are a very organized club with good players and that is why they have been very successful. But I’m very impressed with Rayon’s plans and I can tell you that the future looks bright.”
