The management of Kigali City Council (KCC) is planning to reward girls who excelled in last year’s Ordinary and Advanced level examinations.

This was announced yesterday by Hope Tumukunde, the Vice Mayor in charge of social affairs during an interview with The New Times.

Tumukunde said that KCC will select two girls from each of the three city districts.

"In order to promote the girls education, KCC is in preparation to award six laptops to six girls from the three districts who excelled in last year’s O’level and A’ level examinations,” Tumukunde said.

She said that this will encourage girls in secondary schools to always strive for excellence, especially in Information and Technology and science subjects.

The Vice Mayor added that apart from rewarding the girls, they also plan to recognize outstanding teachers in the three districts in order to encourage teachers to improve the quality of education they offer to students.

Tumukunde noted that the ceremony will take place in a month’s time.
