‘Boxers should volunteer to develop and stop running after donation money’ Ignace Beraho urged while opening the level one boxing coaching course at Amahoro Indoor stadium.

The Rwanda National Olympics Committee president thanked the new committee for resurrecting the sport that was gradually ceasing to be among the popular sport in the country.

He urged the participants to form new clubs and associations that can make their federation even stronger and vibrant.

The workshop, which is being attended by 20 level one coaches, is scheduled to last fourteen days and it is funded by the International Olympics Solidarity (IOC) to a cost of $7500 (about Frw4.2M).

The clinic has attracted participants from five clubs namely; Pan-Africa boxing club, Kimisagara, St. Familles, Inkuba, and Remera and is being conducted by Pierre Matonga a Cameroonian and International Amateur Boxing Association expert.

He cautioned those who are targeting free money not to waste their time in the course. There is a lot of money in boxing and Beraho added, "Boxing is the most prized sport but boxers must work for it.”

He blamed former federation leaders as the main basis of the federation’s under development.

Rwanda Amateur Boxing Federation (Raba) president Antoine Semukanya used the occasion to appeal to the National Olympics Committee to give more support to the sport.

"To develop boxing in the country, we should have coaches, referees and boxers trained,” said Semukanya adding that they are planning to start a national competition.

Eligible coaches will sign a five year contract to ensure that they train upcoming boxers.

Semukanya said that people should stop looking at boxing as a brutal game for brutal individuals because famous personalities like Mohamed Ali became what they are because of boxing.
