I am writing to express my support for the Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, Dr. Jeanne d'Arc Mujawamariya, who called on Rwandans to help more women access education.

It’s quite clear that National development cannot be realized without fully involving women at all levels. In the past, men had been the only breadwinners in our families, a fact that has changed.

A woman's function, according to the Bible was to be a mother and to be obedient to her husband. Women didn't need education in order to be mothers.

Though, it’s still true that some countries still treat women inhumanly, there are very many others that have given women a rightful place in society.

I am grateful that the government of Rwanda has empowered women successfully.
Everybody has the right to education, according to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) of 1948. The right of girls to education is one of the most critical of all rights – because education plays an important role in enabling girls and women to secure other rights.

Like the minister put it, women who constitute over 50% of the population should be given priority when it comes to education, since events have shown that women are more than able to steer any country’s development.
