IOM, gov’t to discuss returnees’ assistance

Some of the returnees need immediate assistance upon repatriation

The regional representative of the International Organization for Migration (OIM), Ashraf El Nour, will tomorrow arrive in the country for the three-day visit.

According to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Refugee Affairs, El Nour the minister,  Gen Marcel Gatsinzi, will discuss, ongoing projects, funded by Japan through OIM, aimed at providing assistance to repatriated refugees.

Robert Bimenyimana, an official in the Ministry, said that this year, more refugees are expected to return, adding that the visit will streamline how they will be supported.

 "The coming of Ashraf El Nour is very important to the country and he has come at a time when we expect more returnees from various countries who will need assistance,” Bimenyimana said.

Last year, the ministry launched a project in Nyabihu District to provide assistance to all returnees, and through this programme, more than 50 cows have been distributed.The returnees will also be trained in various technical skills.
