He made the announcement while opening a five-day regional workshop that brought together stakeholders within the industry to seek ways of improving postal services.
"As far as services are concerned, we will continue to do our best to make them viable and vibrant,” Gatare told participants.
He highlighted several government steps undertaken to make postal services more efficient.
"We have incorporated the new postal law into the ICT Bill that governs all the communication tools,” he said.
The minister added that government is confident the move will enable the National Post Office play a critical role in the socio-economic development of the country.
Celestin Kayitare, the Director General of the National Post Office, noted that the current developments, mainly ICT-oriented and other private operators, should be shared with regional players to make postal business stronger.
The workshop attracted participants from Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan, Seychelles, Lesotho, and Mozambique.
