Editor,

I want to add my voice to the many Rwandans, including Foreign Affairs Minister, Louise Mushikiwabo that the appointment of Alain Juppe as Minister of Foreign Affairs for France has shocked Rwandans to say the least.

It’s well-documented that Juppe supported the genocidal regime in 1994 and his appointment will, in my view not help much in re-building Rwanda, France relationship. Rwandans cannot forget their brothers and sisters who died in the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi.

His appointment sounds ridiculous especially to genocide survivors! Rwanda and her people have every right to be on guard and I am confident that the current leadership in Rwanda is keeping a very close eye on the unfolding events. Anything aimed at jeopardizing Rwanda’s safety and security will be defeated.

Like mister Mushikiwabo noted last week, Rwanda’s renewed relations with France are a product of honesty and trust from both Presidents Kagame and Sarkozy. It’s up to France and Juppe to prove that they are committed.
