‘Inkanda’, Patrick  Muhire’s brand, last weekend, brought out Huye’s fashion conscious, those looking for free fashion tips, and, of course, concert-goers.

Rwanda’s professional fashion designer, Muhire, teamed up with Campus Models Association and East Africa’s model, Eric Tuyishime, to launch his new brand ‘Inkanda.’

The fashion show was held in two different venues in Huye District, and kicked off on Thursday at Petit Prince club.

The entrance fee was Rwf5000 and Rwf10, 000 in the VIP section. And on Friday, all roads led to the National University of Rwanda (NUR) for the final exhibition where the entrance fee was only Rwf1000.

Before the show, Muhire took the opportunity to explain to the audience the cause for the show and elucidated about his fashion collections.

During the exhibition, models showcased three of Muhire’s collections: Cocktail dresses, evening dresses and wedding gowns.

Only traditional and African garments were presented for men.

"I am a traditionalist, that’s why I keep my collections traditional, though sometimes I mix both traditional and modern fabrics to create a unique design,” Muhire said.

He added: "The reason why my first launch was held in Huye, was because I completed my studies at NUR, which is in Huye District and I wanted the people there to see what I do.”

The 32-year-old, who ventured into the business four years ago, said ‘Kigalians’ will have their turn in April, after the Genocide commemoration period.

Speaking to The New Times, Muhire said ‘Inkanda’ is a style of dress ancient Rwandan women used to wear and was made of animal skin, or backcloth.
