RWANDA’s top tennis players have started preparations for this year’s Uganda Open which gets underway March 15 at Lugogo Tennis Club in Kampala.
The local tennis federation (RTF)’s technical director Thierry Ntwali yesterday confirmed to Times Sport that top seed Dieudonne Habiyambere, Jean Claude Gasigwa, Olivier Nkunda, Mathew Uwizeyimana and Megan Ingabire have started training at Cercle Sportif.
"They are in good touch and look set to compete,” he said.
Gasigwa, who reached the Open final in 2008, is eager to renew his rivalry with Ugandan ace Duncan Mugabe, who is likely to be the tournament’s top seed.
But the duo will be kept on its toes after reports that DRC’s Ayalew Kebede and Mohamed Kamba are also in the fray.
The winner in the men’s singles category will walk away with $1,200 (about Rwf0.8m).
