KARONGI - The former Mayor of Rutsiro District, Jean Ndimubahire, could be arrested if it turns out that he was behind the false rape charges against a police officer who was acquitted last week.
Gaspard Rwegeranya, was set free after DNA tests taken to verify the accusations turned out to be negative.
In his defence, Rwegeranya maintained that he was being framed because of unearthing a corruption scandal in which Ndimubahire was allegedly involved.
According to Police Spokesperson, Superintendent Theos Badege, they will not hesitate to arrest Ndimubahire if necessary.
"There is no bias at all. If the law requires that we arrest him for whichever reason, we shall do it without considering his relationship with our police officers,” Badege told Sunday Times yesterday.
He stressed that the Police will stick to their position as law enforcers to avoid sentiments.
Embattled Ndimubahire is accused of conniving with the former District Executive Secretary of The National Youth Council, Jean Pierre Nsabimana, to steal public funds.
Over Rwf3.5million meant for youth empowerment programmes in the district is said to have been swindled.
